Drop the Resolution

Published on 7 January 2023 at 16:16

2023 just started literally 7 days ago and as I scroll through Facebook and Instagram, I see "My new years resolution is......" or in passing conversations I hear the same thing.

I cannot remember the last time I actually made a New Years resolution. I stopped making them because well, I did good for about a week and then I stopped! That excitement of "I'm going to eat healthy from now on" just didn't seem exciting anymore. Or "I'm going to the gym five times a week" just didn't seem reasonable anymore.

What is a resolution anyway?

Resolution:

A firm decision to do or not do something. The quality of being determined.

Be honest with yourself. How many of these so called "resolutions" have you actually made it more than just a few months or even a few days?

Another term I have heard is " New years New You." Have you heard that as well? My thought is, why does it have to be a new year in order to have a new you?

I think a way to think about this is, what did not work for me last year? And what can I do to better my relationship with Christ and carry my testimony through this next year?

I am a saved person. As you are reading this, I don't know if you are personally saved, and if you are not and want to know how to be saved, down below in the comments, just add your name and your email address and I will email you back!

My testimony is something that I hold value to and once you are saved, you too will have a testimony!!!

So how can I or how can you grow this year in Christ?

My husband has introduced me to bible verse mapping. His is really interesting and it can lead to researching other things in the bible!

If you look below, this is one that he has done and its pretty amazing.

This one is mine. Its pretty simple but I am learning as I go.

Another thing to help you grow is to find some good books to read. My goal this year is to read more. To get off electronics and to read actual books that I can hold in my hand. I love to write notes and questions in the margins and to have my bible near me if I need to look something up.

Also, my husband and I are reading the whole bible this year together. Its been fun doing it together because its been leading into conversations and questions about things that we read! I have even put sticky notes in my bible so I can come back to it later when I want to read it again and make notes.

2 Timothy 3:16-17
King James Version
16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

17 That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.

The last thing is to simply pray more. Find a spot in your home that is a favorite place. You can even set a timer and pray the same time every day to make it intentional.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-28
King James Version
16 Rejoice evermore.

17 Pray without ceasing.

18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
