A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.
By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.
John 13: 34,35 KJV
Love is a word that can fit in many cases. You can say you love ice cream. You can say you love going to the beach. You can say you love your dog.
That kind of love is the surface love that is not what this verse is talking about. The kind of love this is talking about runs deeper. I love my husband and I love my children. That means I love them unconditionally, with no strings attached and I am always going to be here for them!
Its a deep love that when they are hurting, as a parent I will hurt too because I want to fix it and make it all better. When my husband is going through something, I can physically feel it because I love him with a deep love and I have his rib, we are one!
There has been something on my mind a lot lately since I got saved. Love is part of the fruit of the spirit.
I have heard so many times that after someone is saved, you will know that they are by the fruits that they bear.
Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.
Matthew 7:20 KJV
This area where the verse comes from, is talking about how back in that time, how they would identify a false prophet. Now days, you can also see how it can be used in a way where it shows someones change inwardly and then they are transformed outwardly by the fruit they are producing in their daily lives.
I for one, am still learning and growing in this area. I was taught from a young age what the fruit of the spirit is but not exactly how to apply them to my life. I couldn't apply them to my life because I was not saved and living a Christian life. I was not bearing the fruit in anyway.
What are the fruit of the spirit anyway?
But the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, long suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith.
Meekness, temperance: Against such, there is no law.
And they that are Christs have crucified the flesh with the affections of lusts.
If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
Galatians 5:22-25 KJV
If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
That actually reminds me of the phrase "walk the walk, and talk the talk" and also "Practice what you preach."
As I do more studying on the fruits of the spirit and how we show others love through these, I will be writing here my findings and also my heart!
Wouldn't it be great if my kids could actually see my faith in God and his glory simply by how my fruit are producing?
Isn't that the example we are to show?
I hope that this encourages you also to dig deep and work on your own spiritual walk with God!
