Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.
Philippians 4:6
Hey mom.
I know that you are tired. I know you are worried. I know that sometimes you "think" that there's just too much on your plate. I have been there too. Honestly, most days I am right there with you.
The verse above says to "be careful for nothing". The Blue Letter Bible app shows that be careful actually means:
to be anxious, to be troubled with cares.
What does that mean then? Don't be anxious and don't be troubled about anything! Point blank!
But that is so hard to do right?
You know mom, nothing is too hard for God. There is nothing that he cannot help handling if you go to him.
I myself am going through something that, yes, its worrisome.
Yesterday, unfortunately, I let it get the best of me. The main thing I do when there's worry, I shut down. I didn't want to talk to anyone. I couldn't look at anyone. And I just didn't want to be around anyone. I thought the worst was going to happen.
My husband had NO CLUE what was wrong!
Well, I have a doctor appointment I am concerned about on Monday and instead of praying about it. And instead of talking to my husband about it, I let the worry just fester! That is not helping anyone. (Long story short, I had a biopsy. I was thinking the worst outcome, letting the devil get into my head, but it came back clear!)
A book I am reading for a devotional (You Are Made For This, by Melissa Horvath), there was a question that was asked. Since then, it has stuck with me and when I thought about it yesterday during my little pity party, God really striped the back of my legs.
What if we lived in the posture of surrender instead of a posture of anxiety?
Whew! When I first read that, I had to look up the word posture.
Not only does the word posture mean how you hold your body, but it also means
how to deal with considering something: an attitude or an approach.
So check this out.
Our attitude does have a correlation with how our body posture is.
If we are sad, we are going to be moping around. People are going to know.
If we are happy and uplifted, people are going to know that by just seeing how our body posture is! We are going to LOOK happy!
How we act with our attitude and how we treat others, shows more than we think (that's a type of posture). If someone has done you wrong, yeah, it's really hard to even trust or be around that person. That also shows! That is a response to THEIR posture! It really can be an endless cycle of anxiety.
The bible is very clear on what we should do when we worry. Sometimes we need to humble ourselves and surrender to prayer.
Praying is the way God HEARS your needs. He already knows them of course. But surrendering your thoughts, fears and anxiety is the ONLY way healing will come.
