New Year, New You?

Published on 31 December 2021 at 18:04

As this year is winding to an end in the next 6 hours or so, on the east coast, I am reminded how people are making resolutions.

I'm scrolling through my Facebook and I see friends posting about how they did not do well with resolutions and they are making new ones or continuing the one they've been working on for years.

What is a resolution anyway?

I looked it up the definition and it means:

a firm decision to do or not to do something.

How many of us have made a resolution every year, but we have not kept it?

I stopped doing resolutions a few years ago because they were always about weight loss/getting healthy and I would just self sabotage. Why is that something that has to be a resolution at the beginning of the year? Why cant that be something to be worked out through the years. I feel like that one, just sets people up for failure right off of the bat. If you don't stick to it, does that mean your a failure? Nope!

This whole concept of new year, new you I have struggled with until recently. I never liked that term at all because we are always ourselves in a way and people of the world are always trying to "find themselves".

What I do like about it is we are a new creature in Christ when we are saved.

2 Corinthians 5:17

17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

Now that I have been saved and all things are become new, my focus needs to change on my spiritual walk and who I am becoming. So in the next year, those are things I will focus on!

I have a prayer closet that has gathered a bit of dust. Time to dust it off and get back on my knees and spend some much needed time with God.

I have a husband that needs his wife to stop getting in her head and continue to be that Proverbs 31 wife.

I have family and friends who are not yet saved and there's a few of them that are constantly on the back of my mind when I know i need to pray for their salvation.

There's other things as well to work on spiritually for myself but those are just what I'm sharing with ya'll.

As I go into year 2022, Philippians 4:6-7 will be going with me and I have decided this will be my "verses of the year" in stead of having a resolution.

Philippians 4:6-7

Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

My prayer for you is that you become a new creature in Christ, that you find a verse to take with you through the year when you may be having a tough time and that you continue to walk with God.

Until next year!
