1 Corinthians 10:13
“There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man; But God is faithful, who will not let you suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.”
The other evening I was reaching on top of my cabinet in the kitchen to take down a bowl.
This wasn't just any bowl. It wasn't just any yellow and white pyrex bowl.
This specific bowl carried a lot of memories. It was the popcorn bowl, the potato salad bowl…..
As I reached for it, I lost the grip and I saw in slow motion, what was about to take place. I could feel my heart starting to race and then CRASH. Little and big pieces were in the sink, on the floor and on the counter.
My husband right away asked what had happen and if was I okay. I couldn't say a word. All I could do was stand in the kitchen and sob and try to catch my breath,
Looking at all of the pieces scattered about my kitchen. My heart was broken.
You see, this wasn't just any bowl, it was my dads. My dad has passed away.
It took me a minute to gather myself and just think and to not spiral into a whirlwind of anxiety.
I felt that lump in my throat. I knew what was happening.
I relate my anxiety with being broken and having weak moments. I have noticed when I have these, what they call anxiety attacks, it's about something that is out of my control, something that can not just get fixed. That bowl, unfortunately, cannot get fixed. But all of the pieces are a good representation of when we are feeling broken, when those anxiety attacks come!
I have had someone once tell me not to sit and wallow in my anxiety because it does no good to anyone. Thats some good advice there
When we are broken, that's when God needs us and wants us to trust him. You might feel defeated but God is there, he is closer to us then we think! God will use your brokenness to grow you in Christ and at the same time, bring you closer to him.
Again, that bowl cannot be restored but WE can be.
There are a few words and definitions that stick out to me when it comes to being broken:
Restored: Return to a former condition, place or position, saved.
Recovered: Return to a normal state of health, mind or strength.
Saved: keep safe or rescue from harm or danger
Reclaimed: Retrieve or recover
Those words and definitions really speak to me when it comes to our spiritual walk, when we feel that we are broken. God is there to pick up all the shattered pieces and put us back together. We just need to trust him.
