The photo above is a little seedling of a green pea plant. My husband and I (mainly husband, he has the green thumb) have started a square foot garden and we planted about 5 or so different seeds. We've been seeing people harvest quite a bit of product and with how much we actually eat in this house, it would be a great idea!
My husband has even gotten the kids involved. He had them put holes where the seeds were going to go, put in the seeds and lightly cover them up! Now what I am excited about it when these grow into plants and we get produce! The kids can help us take the vegetables and the fruit and take them into the house and make something with it! What a great way for children to get involved with what they are eating!
When I worked as a preschool interventionist, we had a garden and grew veggies. We had the kids pick off green beans right off the plant and try it (there were no sprays or anything), same with the tomatoes, and they loved it! We sent home fresh vegetables with the children and their parents helped them prepare it in a meal. It was a great teachable moment. Now we will do the same with our kids!
This green pea seedling, in the photo, has been making its way out of the mulch mixture and headed up towards the sun!
What does it take to grow a seed into a harvesting plant?
Well, you need to give it love and attention!
If you just toss in seeds to dirt, not even where they needs to be at, just walk away and think they will do it on their own, chances are, it may not even do what it needs to do!
If the goal is to harvest food (which I would think would be any ones goal), its going to take time and care.
My husband comes out everyday to check and see whats going on and he waters it when it needs it when we have not had rain.
Growing a seed into a plant it needs water, sun and good soil!
Without the attention and without giving the seed what it needs, it wont grow. It will just be abandond and it will not do anything.
What does it take to grow us into a harvesting Christian?
If we are not putting love and care into our relationship with God, if we are getting distracted and if we are neglecting time with the Lord, how can our relationship grow? IT CANT!
Here are some ways that you can grow Spiritually:
1. Pray
Prayer is more than reciting words or reading off of a paper. Prayer is that direct communication that we have with God. I am really bad about praying and I know we all need to do it more. In the past few years, I have just started to pray out loud, in front of my husband. He has helped me get over whatever fear that I had and just start to connect with God.
I feel much better when I do go into my closet, or I am in my car, or I'm just somewhere that I can have a conversation with God. Hes not going to judge me, hes going to guide me!
Philippians 4:6
6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.
2. Study Gods Word
Each time I pick up my bible and read it or when I am at church and I follow along with the Preacher with what hes preaching on, I learn something new. I put a sticky note at that spot and I go back later to read more about it and look up things. I tend to ask my husband questions about things I don't understand or tell him when I have had an "ah-ha!" moment!
That means I am learning more things as I go.
People for years, have been willing to die to protect the bible. Why?
Its GODS WORD! Its just like when you need instruction on how to work something, this is an instruction book on how to help our hearts and our minds. We are to protect our hearts and minds and this book, helps us!I t contains pure truth about God, about life, the nature of mankind and our own hearts as human beings. You'll be amazed what you discover about God, and about yourself.
17 That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.
